The short answer

A PSA 10 Charizard is worth anywhere from about $239 to just over $1 million, depending on the printing. A 1st Edition Base Set PSA 10 sold for $1,000,952.84 on eBay in September 2026. A PSA 10 shadowless copy is about $57,600, an unlimited one $36,700, and the 151 Charizard ex about $1,275.

Every price below is a published figure checked on 21 October 2026: auction results for the record sales, TCG Charts for graded values (built from recent eBay and Fanatics Collect sales), and TCGplayer’s market price for raw cards. Charizards we couldn’t price from a public source are left out rather than guessed. For how these compare with every other Pokémon card, see the most valuable Pokémon cards.

How much is a PSA 10 Charizard worth?

For a vintage Charizard, anywhere from $11,000 to just over $1 million in PSA 10. The 1st Edition Base Set card is in a league of its own, and the rare holos from 2002 to 2006 now sit above every reprint of the Base Set art.

  1. Charizard 4/102, 1st Edition1999 Base Set · eBay, Sep 9, 2026$1,000,953Raw $5,475 · PSA 9 $60,250

  5. Charizard 4/102, shadowless1999 Base Set, no 1st Edition stamp$57,600Raw $2,172 · PSA 9 about $14,000
  6. Charizard 4/1302000 Base Set 2$48,200Raw $415 · PSA 9 $2,495
  7. Shining Charizard 107/1052002 Neo Destiny, unlimited$42,069Raw $1,300 · PSA 9 $6,078
  8. Charizard 4/102, unlimited1999 Base Set$36,700Raw $955 · PSA 9 $3,720
  9. Charizard 3/110, holo2002 Legendary Collection$11,000Raw $265 · PSA 9 $1,550
Ranked by PSA 10 value. 1st Edition: eBay sale reported by Sports Illustrated. Gold Star: worked out from Sports Illustrated’s weekly sales total. Other PSA 10 and PSA 9 values: TCG Charts. Raw: TCGplayer market price, or TCG Charts where TCGplayer has none for that printing (1st Edition, Gold Star, Skyridge, Legendary Collection, 1st Edition Shining). Checked 21 October 2026.

Two results stand out. Base Set 2 beats the original unlimited card in PSA 10, $48,200 to $36,700, because TCG Charts counts only 70 Base Set 2 PSA 10s against 489 unlimited ones. And the Skyridge Crystal Charizard keeps climbing: a PSA 10 sold for $288,000 on Fanatics Collect on 11 October 2026, though the platform hadn’t marked it paid when we checked. Aquapolis, the set before Skyridge, has crystal cards too, but no Crystal Charizard; the only one is Skyridge 146/144.

Graded values for vintage cards rest on a few sales a month, so one auction can move them a long way. The Gold Star figure is the clearest case: TCG Charts’ running PSA 10 value lags far behind the September sale, which is why the table uses the sale.

How much is a modern Charizard worth?

Most modern Charizards are worth $100 to $850 raw and $239 to $7,600 in PSA 10. They are printed in huge numbers, so the PSA 10 premium is much smaller than on vintage cards, and a PSA 9 often sells for little more than a raw copy.

The Burning Shadows rainbow Charizard is the exception: it trades like an early vintage card, with only 835 PSA 10s on TCG Charts. The Celebrations Classic Collection card copies the 1999 art, number included, which is why people sometimes mistake it for the original. It’s worth about $142 raw, not $955.

How do I know which Charizard I have?

Read the number in the bottom corner first, then look for the set symbol, any stamp and the shadow beside the art. Those four details separate a $91 card from a $1 million one.

  • Base Set 1st EditionNumber 4/102What to look for A small black 1st Edition stamp just below the lower left corner of the art box. No shadow.
  • Base Set shadowlessNumber 4/102What to look for No stamp, and no drop shadow along the right edge of the art box.
  • Base Set unlimitedNumber 4/102What to look for No stamp, with a drop shadow beside the art box. A late UK print reads “1999-2000” in the copyright line.
  • Base Set 2Number 4/130What to look for The /130 number and a small set symbol below the art, which Base Set cards don’t have. Same picture.
  • Legendary CollectionNumber 3/110What to look for The /110 number. The reverse holo has a firework pattern across the whole card and sells for far more.
  • Celebrations Classic CollectionNumber 4/102What to look for Same number as the 1999 card, but with a 25th anniversary logo on the art.
  • Skyridge CrystalNumber 146/144What to look for A number higher than the set total, and Charizard drawn as if made of clear crystal.
  • Neo Destiny ShiningNumber 107/105What to look for A shiny black Charizard; 1st Edition copies carry the stamp to the left under the art.
  • EX Dragon Frontiers Gold StarNumber 100/101What to look for A gold star after the name and a black, shiny Charizard.
How to tell the Charizards in this guide apart. Card numbers from TCG Charts and TCGplayer listings, checked 21 October 2026.

Is my Base Set Charizard 1st Edition, shadowless or unlimited?

  1. Look under the left corner of the art. A 1st Edition card has a small black stamp there. No stamp means shadowless or unlimited.
  2. Check the right edge of the art box. Unlimited cards have a thin dark shadow along it, as if the art box were raised. Shadowless and 1st Edition cards don’t.
  3. Compare the HP lettering. Collectors point to thinner lettering on the early print runs and a bolder font on unlimited cards. Use it to confirm, not as the main test.
  4. Read the copyright line. “1999-2000” marks the late UK and Australian print, which TCG Charts tracks as its own card.

There is no such thing as a 1st Edition card with a shadow: every 1st Edition Base Set card is shadowless, which is why sellers write “1st Edition shadowless”. The full breakdown of print runs is in 1st Edition and shadowless Pokémon cards, and the symbols are explained in Pokémon card rarity symbols.

What is the price of a 1st Edition shadowless PSA 10 Charizard?

The last big sale was $1,000,952.84 on eBay on 9 September 2026. It doubled in under a year: Heritage sold one for a then-record $550,000 in December 2025, and Goldin sold another for $954,800 in February 2026, a copy pulled in a Logan Paul box break that carries his name on the label.

About 125 copies have a PSA 10, so a sale comes along only a few times a year. Below the 10 the price falls fast: TCG Charts puts a PSA 9 at $60,250, a PSA 8 at $39,200 and a PSA 7 at $24,600. Raw copies, mostly well played, average $5,475. The PSA population report shows how many copies sit at each grade.

How much does condition change a Charizard’s price?

Completely. On a vintage Charizard each grade step is worth roughly double the one below it, and the jump from PSA 9 to PSA 10 is about ten times. On a modern one, everything below a 10 sells for roughly the raw price.

  • PSA 10Gem Mint151 $1,275$36,700
  • PSA 9151 about $330$3,720
  • PSA 8151 $285$1,449
  • Raw151 $309$955
Graded: TCG Charts current values. Raw: TCGplayer market price. 151 PSA 9 rounded, as in our most valuable cards guide. Checked 21 October 2026.

The population explains the gap. TCG Charts counts 489 PSA 10s among 132,351 graded unlimited Base Set Charizards, about 1 in 270. The 151 Charizard ex has 28,845 PSA 10s, more than half as many as its 51,084 PSA 9s. On a 1999 card, worn corners and back edges are often what rule out the 10; on a modern one it’s more often centering or surface scratches. The PSA grading scale lists what each grade allows.

Is my Charizard fake?

It might be: Charizard is one of the first cards counterfeiters copy, at every price, and the valuable ones come in fake slabs too. Price is the first warning. A 1st Edition or shadowless Charizard listed far under the sales above is almost never a bargain.

For a raw card, compare the lettering, the energy symbols and the holo pattern with a known genuine copy, then shine a light through it. The full set of checks is in how to tell if a Pokémon card is fake.

Should I get my Charizard graded?

Only if it has a real chance of a 10, or it’s a vintage card valuable enough that a 7 or 8 still pays. Here is the sum for the most common case, a 151 Charizard ex that comes back a PSA 10.

PSA 10 sale value$1,275
Raw value you give up−$309
PSA Standard fee−$59.99
Upcharge to Priority (a 10 is over Standard’s $1,000 cap)−$20
Shipping both ways (estimate)−$32 to $45
Gain if it comes back a 10$841 to $854
PSA fees from psacard.com and graded value from TCG Charts, checked 21 October 2026. Shipping is our estimate; selling fees are not included.

If the same card comes back a 9, it’s worth about $330, and after the $59.99 fee and postage you are about $75 worse off than selling it raw. So grading a modern Charizard is a bet on the 10. Our worth grading guide has the break-even formula, and PSA grading cost has every tier.
